Take cells, not pills!

Any company is a living organism that is truly organized hierarchically upwards.

Though what management teaches us today is mostly how companies are, and should be, organized downwards, from top to bottom, with the brain being at the top ordering the entire organization.

We have forgotten that the brain emanates from the body. This is what Nature tells us. A body is made of cells, cells form organs, organs combine and collaborate, and ultimately organs working in a system form a living organism.

A cell is a self-regulated and semi-autonomous unit. When they assemble, cells give rise to self-regulated and semi-autonomous organs, which, when they coalesce, form living organisms, which ultimately live in environments, themselves self-regulated and partly semi-autonomous.

This is what this TED presentation had to teach us:

Soon we'll cure diseases with a cell, not a pill — Siddhartha Mukherjee

This brings us a very solid ground, a scientific ground, when we agile aficionados pretend that we must build our agility model bottom up, putting the emphasis on the cell, sorry the people in our case.

The presentation suggests that this whole mind shift in medicine brings a new model where we no longer need to take pills to cure diseases, but take cells instead. We very much like the idea of people, the right people as Jim Collins suggests, can very well be the cure of the sickness of many companies that are completely bogged down in their software creation process.
